The intersection of new technologies and the creative ideas of the artist are rapidly being applied in unconventional ways, challenging what we know about art, craft, and making. Providing community access to the cutting-edge digital and additive manufacturing labs, interactive collaboration space, and hands-on programs that can spark the full spectrum of making—Lorain County Community College’s Campana Center for Ideation and Invention offers hands-on education, facilities, and programs that can spark the full spectrum of making—from art to invention to successful business. Our Future Artist Lab programming works to build a new creative hub and a community of artists that collaborate, innovate and take risks, mobilizing new and existing technologies in their work while engaging other community members, artists and makers to work with them.

Experience a virtual tour of the Campana Center and its Fab Lab and learn more about these projects and programs, including those using AR/VR in our state-of-the-art VR CAVE, and get a preview of our newest large-scale art+tech interactive public art installation. Titled SOAR, this outdoor installation of 2,022 kinetic bird sculptures in perpetual motion celebrates the college’s commitment to student success and advancing Northeast Ohio through education. Augmented reality components create a comprehensive immersive experience for visitors walking directly under the birds who experience the sensation of being in the midst of a flock of birds at the moment they unite and take flight.

Presented by Joan Perch, Campana Center for Ideation and Invention Program and Outreach Coordinator; Gregory Little, Director of VR||AR Research and Development; and Jim Gundlach, Creative Director/Marketing
